Agriculture & Food-Processing in Russia

Agriculture has returned to growth since 2006 and kept growing ever since. This is the only sector which kept growing during the economic crisis (+3,5% in 2015 and +4,8% in 2016). Grain, meat and poultry, milk and dairy products, almost all segments have grown and seen new projects.

Thanks to the food import ban imposed by Russia on the West for a vast array of food products and the strong support from the Russian government, many foreign and Russian companies localized new production capacities between 2015 and 2018, most of the time using equipment from the West.

This significant increase in capacity and incentives to process and transform as much as possible raw materials within the country have created a high demand for equipment and technologies in food-processing and packaging among others.

In years to come, this trend is likely to continue as Russia banks on a weak ruble and proactive state policies to boost Russian producers’ competitiveness and build new export capacities.
